The screen presentation at Times Square “100 Artists of the World” will be held as part of the Art Incubation Series, a collaboration between Emmy Award-winning writer Motoichi Adachi and curator Kyoko Sato, known for her introduction of Japanese culture in New York. Organized by Vision Art Media, this series aims to incorporate Japanese artists who produce intriguing works regardless of genre or background, into the cutting-edge art scene of New York, facilitating exchange with artists active around the world.
I want to cut through the art world with a sense honed from years of experience in the Japanese television industry. In a world that venerates tradition, I want to bring a new breeze with my free-spirited ideas. Regardless of whether one has graduated from a famous art university or received patronage from prestigious galleries, beautiful works are beautiful, and interesting works are interesting. I want to unleash captivating artists onto the world stage. I aspire to undertake such unconventional challenges.
— Motoichi Adachi
Japan was defeated in World War II, but afterward, many Japanese artists, dreaming of success on the world stage, migrated to New York. Nearly 80 years have passed since the post-war period, and although the industry landscape has changed, this trend remains unchanged. The Japanese artists selected for the screen presentation in the heart of New York’s Times Square this time will experience an art program in New York and take a significant step forward.
Historical masters such as Yasuo Kuniyoshi (who moved to New York in 1910), Yoko Ono (1951), Yayoi Kusama (1957), On Kawara (1965), Ushio Shinohara (1969), Hiroshi Senju (1993), and Takashi Murakami (2001) also took their first steps in New York. From the artists in this exhibition, I cannot help but anticipate the emergence of such globally renowned artists in the future.
ー Kyoko Sato
AyaNe.
A mother artist in Japan, she expresses the beauty, morality, and sanctity of life with a theme centered on the fusion of digital and analog. Her works have been exhibited in Tokyo, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Brussels, Miami, LA, and NY, and also selected for the Japan-France Contemporary Art World Exhibition.
Key Designer SATOKO
KeyDesigner SATOKO, an emotion-liberating artist, creates paintings with an animistic philosophy that “the divine resides in all things in the universe,” purifying the deep psyche of viewers. She is a member of Royal society of British Artists.
Kyosuke Yonekubo
Since childhood, Yonekubo has been captivated by the world beneath the sea while visiting the ocean with his father. Becoming aware of his own complex thoughts day by day, he expresses his”true self” through the use of blue, the sea, and whales. Engaging in activities such as collaborative exhibitions with planetariums and music, Yonekubo is currently expanding efforts to “make the world bluer.”
Takuya Shimosaka
Since 2017, despite battling epilepsy-related mental illness and hallucinations, Shimosaka has produced over 300 paintings and objects. He has received numerous awards, including recognition at the “MONSTER Exhibition 2019” in Paris and the Newcomer Award at the “Soki Exhibition” in Japan. Shimosaka is expanding his involvement in exhibitions beyond Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Kyushu Sangyo University.
